DIY (for kids) School Project

4th Grade Project
Scrapbook Idea

Use a slinky spiral shoelace to hold together a scrapbook for a school project. Easy for your child to do all by themselves and inexpensive.

After Scrapbook is complete, punch a few holes as if it were going into a 3 ring binder, and feed your shoelace through. Simple as that!
Thank you Sam for the GREAT idea!!

Quick Craft: Our Easter Gifts

This year instead of spending a ton of money on a bundle of flowers for each mom and grandma in the family...we have many different mom's and grandma's. We decided to grow and make our own. A handcrafted gift made with love is the best type of gift.

Quick Easter Planter/Hostess Gift
10 Minute Craft
What you need:
Empty Baby Food Jar
Ribbon
Brown Twine
Rocks
Soil
Seeds or Small Flower

1. Tie Ribbon and Twine around Empty Baby Food Jar.
I tied them into one knot together than tied the ribbon into a knot over the original knot. Then made sure my twine was cut long enough that I could tie it into a bow over ribbon knot. Trim Ribbon if needed once tied an in place.

2.Add rocks to bottom of jar for soil drainage (just enough so soil is not resting on bottom of jar) and add soil & seeds or plant.
I had already pre planted flowers in my Jiffy Green House Planter. I cut out the desired number of plants, then tore the side to make the flower start fit into the baby food jar.

3. Add top soil, either over seeds of around edges of pre planted bio degradable pot, and water
(I also fertilize)

Stay Crafty and Happy Easter~

Crafty: Pamper the body

We all deserve to get pampered now and then but I would hate to pamper myself at the cost of starving my wallet. Here are some crafty and budget friendly ways you can pamper yourself or others! Hmmmm..I think after Easter comes Mother's Day...hint..hint...here are some things that would make a great gift!

Homemade Body Scrub How-To:
Slough off dry winter skin with an invigorating homemade body scrub. It's easy, all-natural, and so inexpensive, you'll want to make enough for gifts.
Tools and Materials
Combine 1 cup of body oil with 2 cups of Epsom or sea salts or organic cane sugar (depending on how fine a grain you like). We added lemon zest for color and fragrance. Package in jars (plastic is safest by the tub).

Pantry Soaps How To:

Raid your larder for materials that add texture, color, and fragrance to handmade soaps. The long, thin box shown holds a number of delectable bars.

Tools and Materials

  • Glycerin, Michael's
  • Honey
  • Ginger
  • Cinnamon
  • Ground clove
  • Oatmeal
  • Chamomile tea
  • Yogurt cups, 1 1/4 inches deep, or cottage cheese containers

From top: Honey-ginger (for each cup of glycerin, add 1 teaspoon honey and 2 pinches ginger);cinnamon-clove (2 pinches cinnamon, 2 pinches ground clove): Oatmeal-honey (use only clear glycerin in this soap; add 1 teaspoon honey, 2 pinches ginger, 2 teaspoons oatmeal); Honey-ginger; and chamomile (1/4 teaspoon chamomile tea).

Use common household items for your molds. We filled round yogurt cups 1. inches deep; oval yogurt or cottage-cheese containers create other shapes. After each soap has set, press on sides of mold to loosen the soap and on bottom to release it.

Tea Tubs How To:
Nothing soothes the soul like a good long soak, especially with a heady infusion of calming scents.

Tools and Materials:
Fill heat-sealable tea bags (perfect for one bath) with 1/4 cup lemon verbena, lavender, peppermint, or chamomile. For small bags, top 5 1/4-inch starched muslin circles with 1 tablespoon of botanicals; tie with waxed twine. Giving a few of these in different scents lets bathers customize each bath.

Thanks Go To The Martha Stewart Website for their great ideas!

DIY: Craft Storage

Craft Cupboard
A shallow hanging cupboard provides plenty of storage for small craft items. Finials on the top help corral rolls of wrapping paper. Clear jars hold ribbons, beads, or buttons. To round up pretty paper scraps, toss them into an open-top box.

 Ribbon Round-Up
A small tension rod is a clever way to add extra storage to a short or narrow shelf. Thread spools of ribbon on the rod for easy, tangle-free access.

Cute Tool Storage
Scissors, pens, and paintbrushes can easily get lost in the shuffle when hidden in a drawer. Store similar tools together in clean, paper-wrapped cans.

Stacked Storage
For a fun twist, wrap several tool cans in coordinating patterned papers and stack in a pyramid shape. Use a hot glue gun to attach the cans to each other. When completely dry, set on a desktop or worktable for easy tool access. Use the same idea with gallon cans to store larger items.

Crafty Workbox
Make your craft projects go more smoothly by organizing everything in a durable workbox. With multiple trays, it will keep your thread, pins, buttons, and fabric handy and portable.

Inexpensive Storage Bins
Two hanging bars and six bins can turn a stretch of wall into craft storage central. Hang the bins over a worktable to hold ribbons and trims or above a desk to stash pens and notepads. Plus, the affordable plastic bins are colorful and washable.

Storage Carousel
Dress up the top of an industrial parts bin with scrapbooking paper cut to fit. Then, fill the slide-out bins with rubber bands, paper clips, and pushpins for use on a desk or with pins, buttons, and thread for a sewing center.

 Simple and Functional
Replacement covers for outdoor sconces make sturdy containers to hold art supplies. The wide, heavy bases minimize tipping and the grooved sides add a fun detail. At around $2.50 a piece, they are a real steal and look equally cute on a desktop or in a crafts cabinet.

Tool Can How-To
To make a paper-wrapped tool can, simply measure the height and circumference of an empty, clean can. Cut a piece of paper per your measurements, adding 1/2" to the length for overlapping. Use double-stick tape under the edges to secure the paper to the can. Use craft glue to embellish with ribbons, flowers, or buttons.
Thanks to Martha Stewart for this Craft Storage

Stay Crafty AND organized~

My April Fools

Having them close their eyes got them super excited! Then once they opened them Bradley's excitement turned to utter and total confusion. Even after explaining over and over that everything still tasted normal it still took them awhile to take a bite, Bradley even waited until after his brother took the first bite, realized he was ok and taste tested himself. The funny thing is usually Mac N Cheese is the first thing gone off their plates. Yesterday it was Bradley's last thing gone. Wonderfully fun year...can't wait until next year!

Crafty: Lace Frame

Lace Frame How-To

A photograph surrounded by a lace-printed mat is a charming hand-made gift. Here, we coated lightweight lace trim with brown ink, and pressed it against the mat to leave its fragile impression. The gift tag (pictured at bottom left in the photo) was made using the same method.

1. Learn the Lace Printing Technique
2. Carefully apply strips of painters' tape to the four corners of a photo mat, so the edge of the tape runs from the inner corners to the outer corners, enabling you to create a mitered effect. On two sides of the mat, make pencil marks on the tape to serve as guides so you can position the lace in a straight line.
3. Ink the lace and print borders on the two marked sides, using the technique described above. Peel off the tape while the ink is wet. Let dry 30 minutes.
4. Retape the four corners, this time exposing the other two sides of the mat. Repeat the process.
